Interning at Philpott

As a church family we have a responsibility to walk alongside our youth and young adults. One way we have been able to do that this year is through internships.
Providence Whitehead joined the team as the Worship Intern in September 2020. When her plans to study abroad were put on hold, Pastor Jesse reached out. As a young adult, Jesse was an intern at his church between high school and post secondary school and it played an important role in his life.
Providence’s internship is 10 hours a week and will run until June. Part of her role includes assisting with the behind the scenes parts of worship ministry as well as leading worship with student ministries and Sunday morning services. In addition to interning at Philpott, Providence keeps busy as a childcare provider. Her goal for next year is to attend Bible College.

Starting January 25th we will have 3 more interns with us! Ian Gillis will be assisting with videography and communication. You may recognize him from telling Bible stories on the Philpott Kids YouTube program, or participating in a recent virtual choir. Ian’s internship will be 10 hours a week and run until June. When Ian is not interning with us this semester, he will be working part time for the Public Library, and will continue on with his musical studies as he prepares for post secondary education. We are super excited to have him pour his creativity into more video projects with the church.

Sarah Kochuk from Kingsville Ontario, and Shir-El Kline from Chrysler Ontario are current students from Redeemer’s Act Five program. The Act Five is a Christian gap year program that helps to prepare students for the future and grow as disciples of Jesus. While Sarah and Shir-El are doing a 6 week internship with us, they will spend up to 15 hours each week participating in 1-2-1 English Conversations, Tuesday morning prayer, The Hub, and special projects with our staff. We are excited for this partnership with Act Five and the opportunity to work with these talented young women.

As our interns are with us, please pray that this is a time of encouragement and clarity, that our students will grow as christian leaders, and that as they walk with Jesus they will see themselves as He sees them. We also pray for more internship opportunities at Philpott Church in the future.
